Charlie Giesige, drums

Charlie Giesige is an American drummer, percussionist, arranger, and teacher.  He has been tapping out rhythms since he could hold a stick, destroying countless pots, pans, glasses, and anything else of decent resonance.  He began studying concert percussion formally at 10 years old, and received his first drum set at 13.  Charlie won several solo and group performance awards through out high school, leading to his acceptance to the Berklee College of Music in 2002.  There he received his Bachelor of Music degree while performing and gigging with fellow alumni Akira Ishiguro, Chris Ward, Jeremy Scott Ragsdale, and Grammy Award winners Esperanza Spalding and Dawaun Parker.  He studied a multitude of musical styles under internationally acclaimed and published percussion educators Yoron Israel, Kim Plainfield, Dave DiCenso, and Francisco Mela.  He spent the summer of 2004 studying indigenous West African percussion in Ghana, and the September of 2006 touring with a jazz duo in Japan.

Charlie is currently playing with several diverse groups, ranging from modern jazz trios in local cafes and jazz clubs, to hard rocking blues and punk in bars and night clubs through out the bay area.  He continues to develop his unique style by deconstructing and analyzing the playing of the great, heavy groovers of the past and present.  While teaching, he encourages his students to develop their own creativity while giving them the technique and compositional understanding to become the best musician they can be.
