

Yuri Kye, violin & viola
Yuri is best-known to the San Francisco audience for her work with The Goldenhearts, a San Francisco based rock band which has appeared at some of the hottest venues in the Bay Area such as The Fillmore, Cafe Du Nord, Parkside, 111 Minna gallery, Slim's, and Bottom of the Hill. As their resident violinist Yuri is featured on the Goldenhearts' 12-track EP, set for release in the fall of 2011. Yuri is also the newest member to emerging six-piece trip-hop ensemble Naked Fiction, and will make her debut with them at Cafe Amnesia in April 2011. Yuri's other notable crossover work include appearances with the George Hurd Ensemble at Infusion Lounge, appearances with Trio Garufa, a popular fixture in the Bay Area tango and milonga scene, and her participation in the Jack Dubowski Ensemble, which appeared at Cafe Du Nord recently performing a unique arrangement of the popupar new wave band Depeche Mode's beloved 1990 album "Violator". As a chamber musician and recitalist Yuri has performs regularly with musicians from Classical Revolution, appearing in recitals at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Legion of Honor, Herbst Theatre, and the Red Poppy Art House. She can also be frequently seen performing at Cafe Revolution with other professional musicians who donate their time to the cause of accessible classical music. Yuri independently contracts performance opportunities for many private events and works as the Bay Area music coordinator for Innocenti Strings, performing at dozens of events in various chamber ensembles year-round. A passionate orchestral musician, for the past two seasons Yuri has served as principal second violinist of the Chamber Music Alive! Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and as principal violinist for the North Bay Opera Company, and can be seen in a substitute role elsewhere in the region. Yuri began her musical studies at age 5 on the piano, and later enrolled in the public school string program at age 12. Two years later she won the position of principal second violin at Idaho All State orchestra 2000, and in 2002 was selected as concertmaster. She claimed the Idaho State Solo Competition title in both violin and viola in 2002 and 2003, and in 2001 and 2003 was selected to the All-Northwest roster, comprised of the best young musicians in the entire Northwest region of US. Originally a pupil of the late Janet Snyder of Idaho Falls, Yuri studied at University of Oregon for two summers under the tutelage of Fritz Gearhart while also participating in Oregon Festival of American Music. She continued her studies at New England Conservatory under James Buswell and holds a B.A. from University of Utah.
